PS5 emulator system requirements: what your PC actually needs

None of the active projects publishes official minimum specifications yet, so this page states what the projects themselves require to build and run, plus what developer reports imply about real hardware. We mark the difference explicitly.

What the projects state themselves

Where a project's README states exact requirements, defer to it — repository links are on the emulators page.

Practical tiers

Interpretive guidance based on how these projects work, not official specs. Treat it as a starting point.
TierTypical hardwareWhat to expect
Experiment 4-core / 8-thread CPU, any recent Vulkan GPU, 8 GB RAM Builds run; most titles will not boot or will crash early. Useful for following development.
Realistic target 6–8 core CPU, discrete GPU from the last 2–3 generations with Vulkan 1.3, 16 GB RAM, SSD The tier where reported boots and renders were observed. Performance strain is still the norm.
Comfortable 8+ core CPU, current-generation GPU, 32 GB RAM, fast NVMe SSD Best odds as projects mature; does not guarantee playable framerates today.

Why PS5 emulation is so much heavier than PS4

The PS5's GPU is dramatically faster and its I/O pipeline (the ultra-fast SSD streaming the PS5 is built around) has no direct PC equivalent. An emulator or translation layer must reproduce that behavior in software, which taxes both CPU and storage. This is why 2026's headlines about "playable 60 FPS" concern a handful of lightweight titles, not the library.
