PS5 emulator for PC. Real projects. Verified evidence.

PS5 emulation moved from proof-of-concept to playable titles in 2026. SimTrack tracks every active project against its primary GitHub sources — releases, commits and compatibility evidence — so you can separate real progress from fake download sites.

The four real projects, at a glance

KytyPS5

A PlayStation 5 translation layer for Windows, Linux and macOS. The most active project by commit volume, with dated builds published through GitHub Actions. Descends from InoriRus's original Kyty (dormant since 2024) — they are separate projects.

SharpEmu

An experimental PS5 emulator with a fast release cadence. Developer reports describe titles reaching renderable or bootable states, with performance still strained. Windows x64 focus, pre-1.0 in every sense.

PCSX5 (source project)

An early-stage open-source emulator. Note: we could not confirm any relationship between this source repository and the pcsx5.org website — verify identities before trusting any claims attached to that name.

AnyPS5

A tool for automatically porting PS5 executables to Linux and Windows. Different scope from console emulation: it works game-by-game at the executable level. Its v0.1.2 release fixed a documented startup blocker in one title.

What "progress" means in October 2026

The honest picture: a small number of titles boot or render; fewer reach playable framerates; nobody runs the full library. Verified evidence so far includes a documented startup fix for Dreaming Sarah on AnyPS5 and developer reports of ASTRO's PLAYROOM rendering improvements (with performance strain) on SharpEmu. Anything beyond that is marketing. Our compatibility log records only sourced entries and marks every gap explicitly.

Common questions

Is there a PS5 emulator for PC?

Yes. As of October 2026, several open-source projects are in active development: KytyPS5 (translation layer), SharpEmu (experimental emulator), PCSX5 (early-stage source project) and AnyPS5 (executable porting tool). A small number of titles boot or render; full-library compatibility does not exist yet.

Can I play PS5 games on PC with an emulator?

Only a very limited set of titles, and often only to the point of rendering or booting. Check the compatibility log before expecting anything.

Are PS5 emulators legal?

Emulators themselves are legal software in the United States. Distributing copyrighted game files, firmware or BIOS images is not. See our editorial standards.

Do PS5 emulators need a powerful PC?

Far more demanding than PS4 emulation. Effectively you need a modern multi-core CPU, a recent Vulkan-capable GPU and 16 GB+ RAM to attempt most titles — details on the requirements page.
